We are making a documentary about Feliciano dos Santos and his band Massukos. Our Story
A compilations of shots of Malo Ga Kujilana (MGK), a farm in the village of Nomba outside of Lichinga, Mozambique. MGK was originally started as an experiment in sustainable farming. Now in its 6th year the farm is completely self-sustained, requires no outside money to operate, and is a major source of income for the village. The farm acts as a teaching tool to show surrounding communities that natural farming techniques, which do not require chemical based pesticides and fertilizers, can be prosperous and long lasting. The workers of the farm also take time each week to teach surrounding communities topics include nutrition and HIV/AIDS prevention. MGK is also one of the major growers of Artemisia, a natural anti-malarial that they sell to local hospitals and individual buyers. While some of the workers are in fact related most are not but have nevertheless formed a tight family that takes care of one another as well as their farm. We have been very lucky to stumble upon this project and look forward to learning more about it as our time here progresses.
